Saguaro National Park is all about the giant cactus that is the iconic symbol of the American Southwest. The Saguaro cactus only grows in the Sonoran Desert. Reaching up to 50 feet in height and weighing 8 tons or more, Saguaros grow very slowly for up to a 150 year lifespan. The park is one of the hottest and driest places on the continent, yet has a greater variety of plant and animal life than any other North American desert.
